Peacefully, with family by his side on Tuesday, December 19th, 2017 at Grey Bruce Heath Services, Southampton, in his 84th year. John, beloved husband of Karen (nee Cottrill). Loving Dad of Eleanor and her husband Reg Barrett, Elizabeth and her husband Alvin Mooney, Nancy, and Katherine and her husband Chris Tew. Proud Grandpa of Megan (Craig), the late Matthew, Emily (Patrick), Laura (Cory), Ian (Katrina), Sophia, Harrison, Abigail, and Natalya. Great Grandpa of Liam, Grayson, Kellen, Mackenna, Emmett, and Elijah. Fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Gregg Ziegler, and brother-in-law Alfred Filsinger. John led a full and wonderful life that included teaching at G.C. Huston from 1974-1991, being a proud Mason and Probus member, past president of the Bruce County Genealogical Society, and a life-time member of the Bruce County Historical Society.
Friends will be received at the T.A. Brown Funeral Home, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, 519-832-2222 on Thursday, December 21st, 2017 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm with a Masonic service being held just before evening visitation at 6:45 pm. A celebration of John’s life will be held at the Port Elgin United Church, 840 Bruce Street, Port Elgin, on Friday, December 22nd, 2017 at 11:00 am with Rev. Bonnie Holliday officiating.
Memorial donations to the Bruce County Genealogical Society or the Saugeen Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
