Vernon Johnson

Passed away peacefully, with family at his side on September 2, 2017, at the Owen Sound Hospital in his 93rd year.

Beloved husband of Betty for 70 years. Loving father of Judy (Paul) Brown of Port Elgin, Ontario, and Jane (and her late husband Allen) Wheeler of Fruitvale, British Columbia. Cherished grandfather of Ryan (Tracy) Brown of St. John’s Newfoundland, Shannon (Marty) Kearns, of Orillia, Ontario, Crystal (Shaun) Chadburn,of Duncan, British Columbia and Kim Wheeler, of Fruitvale, British Columbia. Much loved great grandfather of Miranda and Charlie Kearns of Orillia, and of Willow Chadburn of Duncan, British Columbia. Vern is also survived by his brother Bernard of Ancaster.

Vern was born in Simcoe, Ontario and was a WWII veteran (QOR of C), a graduate of U of T, a retired Professional Engineer and a long time employee of Babcock & Wilcox Canada, Cambridge, Ont.

After retiring to Port Elgin in 1986, Vern was manager of The Downtown BIA for several years. Vern was a charter member and past president of The Probus Club of Saugeen Shores.

Vern’s hobbies included photography, pencil & pen drawing, wood working and singing. Vern & Betty also travelled extensively throughout North America and Europe, including several cruises and their annual winter vacation in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Friends and family will be received at T.A. Brown Funeral Home, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, 519-832-2222 on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 2-4pm, with a funeral service on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the T.A. Brown Funeral Home.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Saugeen Memorial Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
