Gerald Ernewein Obituary

Gerald Francis Ernewein died suddenly in his home in Port Elgin ON on February 20, 2024. Predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Alex Ernewein formerly of Chepstow, and his sisters Rosemary Ernewein and Mary Gillis (Bernie deceased).

Survived by his siblings Florence Hartman (Stewart, deceased) of Kitchener, Barbara Hargrave (Robert) of Barrie, Josephine McDonald of Kincardine, Andrew Ernewein (Alma) of Walkerton, Philip Ernewein (Janis) of Strathroy, Theresa Winchester (Gerhard Schmidt) of Listowel, Kathleen Waechter (Wayne) of Wingham, Edward Ernewein (Cindy) of Elmwood, Sharon Williamson (David) of Pike Bay, Ray Ernewein of Walkerton, Rita Schefter (Paul) of Waterloo. Survived by his much-loved children.

Also known to friends and family as Jed, Gerry very much enjoyed playing cards and, like his father, was skilled in the fine art of Euchre. An avid Scrabble player, he liked nothing better than to use all his letters, except maybe winning. He had a very sharp mind when it came to mental math, calculating sums faster than the figures could be entered into a calculator. Gerry was always a huge fan of a bargain, tracking flyers with enthusiasm. A very kind-hearted man, he never turned away someone in need and was a good friend, welcoming all visitors and indeed providing shelter for homeless people on more than one occasion. Gerry struggled with mental health challenges but was a beloved father; his daughters, Deanna and Maria, will never play cards, go fishing or bike without remembering a dad who loved to laugh, sing and have a good time. He is in a better place now, free of limitations.

Gerry's ashes will be placed in his plot at the Mary Immaculate Cemetery, 462 Chepstow Road on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024 at 11 a.m.with a burial service by Deacon Wayne Waechter.  All are welcome to attend.

Gerry was grateful for the support received from his family, friends and from the local community.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Living Hope Food Bank in Port Elgin
would be appreciated.
