Gerald (Gerry) Edward William Melcher, 70, of Port Elgin, Ontario, passed away at home of natural causes on February 17, 2024.
Born to parents Carl and Geraldine Melcher, on July 29, 1953, in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Gerry moved to Port Elgin in 1973, after training in Deep River, to work at Bruce Heavy Water. This began his journey of working at Bruce Power for 36 years.
He married Jackie, the love of his life, in 1976, who survives him. Gerry is also survived by his two sons Edward (Quinn) and Micheal (Sarah), and Grandson Grayson; sister Carla and her children, Kerrie and Karen, from Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. Gerry held family dear, including his many cousins in Sault Ste Marie and Massey, Ontario and his wife’s family in Kitchener, Ontario.
Gerry loved darts, golfing, and was an avid collector of hats. A die-hard Nascar fan, he watched many races on Sunday, sometimes adding in a nap. Gerry loved his “honey-do” list that Jackie would prepare for him. He was a handy-man and would often spend time in his basement or garage tinkering with small appliances or computers.
Known for his “punniness” and “one-liners”, Gerry could often be found keeping his friends and family entertained. His laugh was contagious and bellowing, and could fill a room.
A dedicated member of Community of Christ Church, Gerry served as treasurer for decades. He found peace, joy and purpose in supporting the church and being part of the congregation, especially during COVID when he helped with online Sunday services.
