Irene Elizabeth (Boettger) Eby

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irene Eby on February 8th, 2018, in her 99th year. Predeceased by her husband Russell Eby (1980).  Mother of Muriel Guthrie and her husband the late Peter, Stan and his wife Islay, Marilyn, and Stuart and his wife Sharon. Grammy of Heather Phillips (Matt), and James Guthrie (Joke); Steve Eby, Sandra Beirnes (Ron) and Jeff Eby (Sherri); Carlie Myher (Darren) and Alex D’Amico (Sarah); April Hexemer (Mike), Mark Eby (Bev) and Kurt Eby (Ariel). Great grandmother of 12.  One of 11 siblings, she is survived by her sisters Marguerite Cluley and Winnie McTeer.

Irene was a farmer’s wife, belonged to the Women’s Institute for 50 years and was an active member of Tolmie Memorial Presbyterian Church in Port Elgin. She will be fondly remembered for her wonderful quilts, her love of friends and her “never give up” approach to life. The family wishes to thank the staff of Kingsway Arms at Elgin Lodge in Port Elgin where she was happy and well cared for when the need arose for the past eight years.

Friends will be received on Sunday, February 11th, 2018 from 2-4pm at the T.A. Brown Funeral Home, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, 519-832-2222.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 12th, 2018 at 11:00am at the Tolmie Memorial Presbyterian Church, 699 Goderich Street, Port Elgin, with Rev. Chuck Moon officiating. Spring interment Sanctuary Park Cemetery.
