The late David George Beckingham passed away peacefully in the early morning of Friday, February 24, 2023. He was 73 years of age. He is survived by his brother Jimmy and sister Janice and his children Michael Beckingham (Clare Watson), Sean Bryce, and Heather O’Brien (Corey) and grandchildren Sage, Isla and Koa.
He will be fondly remembered for always having a funny joke to tell. Even up to his last days he was telling jokes and able to have a laugh.
He was a caring and loving father. One of his greatest contributions in life was helping raise Heather and Sean as his own.
He would have celebrated 37 years of sobriety this year. He made many life-long friends through Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). He sponsored many people over the years, sharing his wisdom, resilience, and life experiences to help others. He would often quote the Serenity Prayer. There were many coffee dates with friends at ‘Timmy’s’.
Some of his best attributes were that he was kind, generous, funny, intelligent and honest. He was a great communicator and had the ‘gift of the gab’ with a sales career in telecommunications, working for Tellabs and NEC. An opportunity at Bruce Telecom brought him and the family to Port Elgin in 2000.
Many fond memories were made golfing and fishing with his boys in Southampton, or while eating Gerry’s fries and watching ‘one of the world’s best sunsets’ he’d say.
The Family is grateful for all of the support and care that was provided to David in his later years through Grey Bruce Health Services. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to made in his memory to the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation.
A Celebration of Life will be held this summer – details to follow. In the meantime the family will do a private funeral.
