Elsie Ashdown Obituary

Peacefully with family by her side at the Southampton Care Centre on Sunday, February 13th, 2022, in her 98th year.

Elsie was born January 18, 1925, in Hubbard, Saskatchewan. She grew up with loving parents Mary and Harry Palk of the Ukraine, twin sister Elizabeth (Betty) and brother Jim. Harry was a foreman for the railroad, so their family moved often, residing in the section house alongside the tracks. Mary was one of 11 children. Elsie joined the army at 18, did basic training in Regina, then was transferred to Ottawa. She returned to Saskatoon for retraining after the war where she met her husband, Roy. They married in 1947, moved to Toronto where they had daughters Cheryl (Sherry), and Gay. Elsie and daughters later moved to Ottawa to be near her sister. She worked for many years as a keypunch operator for the Federal Government.

Elsie will be missed dearly by her daughters, Sherry (Steve), and Gay (Bob); sister, Betty; grandchildren, John, Anne (Steve), Doug (Sarah), Alex (Deanna), Roberta (Matt); great grandchildren, Amellea, Addison, Briar, Jeremy, Josh, James and Alexandra; aunt of Sandy (Wayne), Lynn (Rick), Donna (Geoff), Cindy (Bob), Colleen (Michael), and James (Michele). Elsie will be fondly remembered and missed by her extended Ukrainian family.

Family and friends will be received at the T.A. Brown Funeral Home, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, 519-832-2222 for visitation on Friday February 18, 2022, from 6pm – 8pm and the funeral service on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 11am with a gathering after at Lakeshore Recreation and Racquetball Club for all friends and family. * Proof of vaccination in lieu of social distancing and capacity limits will be required at the visitation, funeral service and celebration.
