Peacefully, at her home in Port Elgin after a courageous 7 year battle with cancer, on Thursday, November 28, 2019 in her 70th year. Joanne, beloved wife of Ken Johnstone. Loving stepmom of Christy (Trevor Carson), Lisa (Daren Tyndall), and John Johnstone, and mother-in-law of Paul Doughty. Proud Grandma Jo to Lara and Bekah Doughty, Elizabeth, Keith and Michael Rouse, and Madeline and Lucas Carson. Dear sister of Dianne Kuntz (Harvey), Janet Lehmann, Kenneth Voll (Virginia), Larry Voll (Brenda), and Leonard Voll. Daughter in law of Shirley Johnstone, and sister-in-law of Carol Reaney, Linda Stephens (Neil), Don Johnstone (Louise), and special sister to the Anderson family Pat Buchanan (Wes), Barb Anderson, Gail Manderson (John Hintz), Richard Anderson Jr. (Gina), Brian Anderson (Linda), June Demers (Brian), Tammy Lopes (Paul) and Bill Anderson (Kim). Joanne will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Predeceased by her parents Robert and Charlotte Voll, her late husband Jim Templin, stepdaughter Michelle Doughty, brother Clifford Voll, brothers-in-law Ron Lehmann and Larry Reaney, and a special couple in her life Dick and Geraldine Anderson.
Joanne worked for over 40 years as a compassionate and caring nurse, beginning her career at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener, working for many years in Owen Sound and finishing her nursing career at the Southampton Hospital. She and her first husband Jim Templin also operated the famous Driftwood restaurant at Sauble Beach for 10 years beginning in the late 1970’s.
Friends will be received on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the T.A. Brown Funeral Home, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, 519-832-2222. A celebration of Joanne’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 2:00pm. A private family interment will be held in the spring.
At Joanne's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Chapman House Hospice or the Owen Sound Hospital Foundation for the Oncology Department would be appreciated by the family.
