OFFICIAL OBITUARY FOR

Shirley "Shelley" Joyce (Wells) Parker

March 24, 2021

OBITUARY Print

Peacefully, with family by her side at Brucelea Haven, Walkerton on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 in her 91st year. Shelley, loving wife of the late Eric. Beloved mother of Linda and her husband Larry Appel, Terry and her husband Mike Richard, and Marty Slezak. Proud Grandma of Brock (Lisa), Reid, Neal, Kim, Andres (Katt), Stefano (Sabrina), and Simonne. Great Grandma of 10. Predeceased by her daughter-in-law Anna.

Shelley loved singing and was good at it. She  made a record in 1959 which landed in the top 20's of the Canadian billboard. Her time with The Lighthouse Swing Band was so much fun for her and she won several Songbird awards with them. As a welfare worker for Bruce County for over 25 years her car was seen all over back roads . On her lunch hour your could see her parked on the side of the road having  a 15 minute siesta.  She liked to voice her opinion about the town of Paisley so she sat on council for a number of years. Since she seemed to have time on her hands she reported to CBC radio about special and quirky events going on in Bruce County. She liked that gig. She shared her love of music with her children who all sing (not well) and whistle around the house. Shelley was a young mother and liked having her children's friends piling into the house. All her grandchildren thought she was a cool grandma with her big earrings and knowledge of pop culture.  She was loved and will be missed.

A celebration of Shelley’s life will be held at a later date with details to be announced.

Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.

A special thank you to the staff at Brucelea Haven for all of their care and support.

Linda, Terry, Marty,
So many fond memories of your Mum.
Swooning over her fancy high heels, loving that turquoise refrigerator, and forever thankful that she suggested summer school after grade eleven

Shelley was the "hostess with the mostess."  She had a wonderful spirit and an open mind.  I will forever be grateful for how welcoming both she and Eric were.

My condolences to Marty and the extended family.

We are so sorry to learn of Shelly's passing.  She plays a prominent role in many of our memories of Paisley.  She was a wonderful and kind neighbour, and we shared many laughs.  She was also a fabulous ambassador of Paisley (in too many ways to recount).  She was a beautiful human being with a zest for life! She will be missed.  Our sincere condolences to Marty and the rest of the family.

So sorry to hear of Shelly's passing.  I too, was one of those teenagers with her in Paris in 1979.  That trip with Shelley, Eric, and the Cards is one of my all time best memories!  She was so much fun.  And yes, daring her to do the splits on Paisley's Main Street when we returned topped off the trip.  I recently was able to touch base again with her when she was at Elgin Retirement in Port Elgin, as I was visiting my father.  We remembered Paris and how much fun it truly was.  I can't thank Shelly enough for such great memories.  Thank you so much!
With sincere condolences but with such happy memories.

Owen Sound Little Theatre fondly remembers Shelley in Fiddler on the Roof (1981), directed by Pat O’Connor) where she played a wonderful Golde, Tevye’s (David Leslie) wife.
